Re: eradication of the dandelion

The only natural means of killing dandelions that I know of is to dig
them up. I find it somewhat a losing battle as the verge along our
road is full of them as is the pasture across the street, which means
there is a constant source of seed for new ones. During bloom time,
I have a pocket stuffed with flower heads and seed heads as, since it
is physically impossible to dig them all up, I make a point of
pulling flower and seed heads when I see them in the vain hope that I
will reduce the future population. The sneaky plants pull their
flowers back to the ground once pollinated and they sit there (below
mower blade height) until they are ready to make puff balls when they
stand erect once more - the better for breezes to catch the seed...

Dandelions store amazing amounts of energy for renewal in their thick
tap roots. If you don't get 98% of that root, the plant will just
grow back again. I believe total eradication an impossibility.
