Lloyd and his opinions

From: ECPep@aol.com

He is widely quoted as say something to the effect that American men do not
know how to garden as it requires crawling about on your hands and knees.
American men use long tools and never see their plants. He also said the
beloved American developed hybrid hosta is a great American cabbage. What is
not not to love?

Well I spend a lot of time on my knees in the garden, but then I'm not an American. I have a bunch of long handled tools, but seldom use them-I have yet to figure out how you use a garden weasel without putting a 100 pound weight on it so it will actually dig into the soil.
Mind you any time the temp goes over 25 degrees Celsius I stay in the house with the airconditioning turned up.
And I have a number of hosta in my garden, but I can't see spending a lot of money for the "newest and greatest" varieties. I have a couple of blues, a couple of yellowish ones, some variegated and some plain green, but I can't remember what's what except for Honeybells, Sum and Substance and the H. plantaginea, which I actually do grow for the flowers.
I prefer pulmonaria as foliage plants and astilbe as shade plants, but some large hostas give a nice background for the pulmonarias and primulas.
