Hi Claire,
I've been here - just lurking :). Have been too busy to do any writing
until today. The tour is over and it went very well in spite of the whole
week previous being in the high 90's and being worried sick that all my
flowers would dry up and the lawn would burn up before tour day arrived.
It's a good thing we have a plentiful water supply this summer, because I
have used way more than my share to keep this huge garden in prime
condition.
I was told to expect about 200 tour visitors here as there were 24 gardens
open all over the city for this event. Well, 500+ visitors signed in here
between 10 am & 4 pm! I had 3 Master Gardener volunteers circulating (1) in
the front, (1) the back and (1) at the information/sign in table. And 3
friends circulating in the nursery answering questions and putting orders
together to be picked up after 4 p.m. My garden doesn't look too bad in the
aftermath - just well trampled grass. People were very respectful and kind
and I am REALLY glad it is all over! (yes, I was exhausted too).
To complicate my life just a little, a new "best friend" has come to live
with me. I now have a beautiful white Lhasa Apso puppy who came to me via
American Lhasa Apso Rescue. He is very sweet and consumes a lot of time!
He likes the garden and so far has not dug any holes or trampled the
flowers. But of course we are still getting to know one another! I had
forgotten how funny puppies can be as I lived with the same dog for 15 years
and we both slowed down together. :)

Marilyn is too quiet the past week. Are you beset by exhaustion getting the
garden into shape for touring? All of you guys getting ready for tours,
hope
you have cool air soon.

A look at the weather map says you are very hot in Oregon this week. Hope
you cool off soon and the tour is a great success.

I went on a tour last week and it was beastly hot in that garden. As nice
as
it was, I wished that I had stayed home. It might be better for tours to be
held in June, lots of beautiful things in June.
