Since we have deer herds in Columbia Couonty that resemble those prints you
see of buffalo in the west, great waves of animals I should think we would
have heard of Chronic Wasting Disease, This is entirely new to me. If it
is linked, even remotely, to Mad Cow Disease, can you blame hunters for
leaving the deer alone? I wonder sometimes why one part of this country has
not the faintest idea of what is happening in another part. We have vast
deer herds here all up and down the Hudson River flatlands from NYC to the
mountains.
I am glad you posted this, one does not like surprises as this might be one
day upon opening the newspaper.
I live closest to Albany, NY where the NYS Health Dept. does these
investigations and we are currently very interested in dead crows that have
died from West Nile virus. I have read this is now found across the country.
It is a nearly fatal virus carried by birds that have been bitten by
mosquitos. Since nobody died this year it is just news stories. I am
curious as to why we have not heard of your deer problems, we certainly have
enough of them.
