But not all in the same thought.
I have cheap hostas growing under a walnut and they do OK. Tony Avent said
they're not as happy as they might be elsewhere, but they are increasing and
haven't died. Plenty of weeds there too, including VA creeper. Dogwoods
sprout, redbuds growing. Scilla and daffs in the spring. Probably won't
put expensive hostas in that bed but that's as much because it's only for
screening; not for show. (Hides the Methodists and my wood pile from each
other.)
I use rebar to support dragon eggs--what some of you might think of as
bowling balls covered with marbles. Makes it look like they're floating
among the plants. Only problem is to remember to put something on the end
of the rebar when I take the ball off--usually a glove works. The butt end
of a piece of rebar is too hard to see and I've stuck myself in the head
with other stakes when bending over before--don't want to try fighting with
rebar. Cuts pretty well with an angle-grinder and a cut-off disk, or you
can get a pipe bender to put a curve in it.
