insect populations

We're still about 6 inches below normal for the year in precipitation. I'm not sure this has anything to do with the insect population being down, but I hear NO frogs croaking at night. There's a stream that runs through the neighbor's property across the street and the frog's night music has been lovely the past 5 years. This year however, not a sound.
The one *bug* we seem to have in abundance is the lightning bug. My gardens put on a real show after dark - especially when the lightning bugs congregate in one bush or another. It looks like Christmas lights!
