In April, I found a very strange new growth on my several year old Alba Meidiland rose. It looked twisted and pink. I got really concerned when it showed up on my other roses (Scarlet Meidiland and climbing Blaze) and I finally checked online for a possible rose disease.
I identified the problem as Rose Rosette, a fatal virus desease.

There is no cure and the roses have to be dug out. I already removed two roses and cut infected stems from two others, hoping still for a 50/50 chance for them to survive.
I live in the Chicago city limits. The virus spreads by microscopic mites blown by wind.
Has anybody in my area see the same problem?
