Z. aurea has gotten huge in just a couple of years while aptera has remained smallish.  I deadheaded to reduce the space it was hogging from its neighbors but now I think more severe maintenance is required.

I find the Zizia aurea a little weedy in my wildflower garden.  I just pinch the old blooms off.  It does attract a lot of insects while in bloom which is what I like.  I have never tried to divide since the clumps are small but seeds very viable.
