Training ants?? ;+) As they say - good luck with that! If it were the house I'd be willing to call in pros if needed. This tree is about 50 yrs old. It was originally planted so it would grow into the houses utility lines, which is part of why I had it severely cut back. So now it appears a bit lopsided. If I have to lose it eventually, I can start planning now for other landscape shade solutions, but right now it's dead center in the yard. Still, I don't want to encourage the ants' stay for long or they could branch out to the house. When we complain about ants, the exterminator tells us to get some ant baits. The hope is that some of the ants will take the poison back to the queen, and that will kill the nest. We have some ants climbing up the side of our house in two columns. I am still trying to train the ants to take the bait back to the nest.
