> Plants that have just been phenomenally successful
for you?<
I would recommend any of the hybrids bred by Alan Bremner. All the ones I
have seen are good - he only chooses the best. The two I have grown, both
of which have been very successful are "Patricia" and "Dilys". I grow both
of them in sun, but don't see why they shouldn't both take some shade
"Patricia" is about 30 in tall with large, well shaped, bright magenta
flowers with a black eye. It flowers for months on end as it is sterileand
is a good border plant. It is a hydrid between G.endressii and G
psilostemon.
"Dilys"has a different habit altogether. It throws out long sprays of small
leaves covered with darker magenta purple flowers and will mound up at the
front of a border and climb into other plants around it. It also has a very
long flowering period and is sterile. It is a hybrid between G. sanguineum
and G procurrens.
For lots of other ideas for geraniums to grow and lots of information and
pictures, "The Gardener's Guide to Growing Hardy Geraniums" by Trevor Bath
& Joy Jones, published in the UK by David & Charles, but I think available
in the USA is an excellent book. Trevor lives in my area and he has a
wonderful cottage garden with hundreds of hardy geraniums which he opens to
the public occasionally.
