Shiela: These aren't brilliant ideas by any means, but Solidago 'Crown
of Rays' (Golden Rod), and Helenium 'Moerheim Beauty' are attractive
late bloomers. Fall-blooming asters are a good source of late
purple flowers. Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpurpeum) is a late perennial
for pink blooms. My 'Starfire' Phlox paniculata blooms later for me
than other varieties of garden phlox, has deep red blooms and dark
foliage. Obedient plant is another late bloomer, but very invasive.
