I just took a short summer course at our local technical school on
Wisconsin Butterfly Gardening and found out there that the larvae of
several species feed on violets (Viola spp.) including the Meadow
fritillary, Varigated fritillary, Aphrodite fritillary, and Great
Spangled fritillary. Maybe one of these is your *culprit*?
