Re: Adenophora, not.

Hi Cynthia:

I'm not familiar with the foliage of Adenophora, but if the leaves on
your 'mystery plant' are a medium yellow-green, deep-veined and
rough/hairy, heart-shaped with serrated edges -- it could be
Campanula punctata. I have a variety that was labeled 'Elizabeth',
with beautiful 2" dusty-rose bells that have burgundy spots inside
and fits the rest of your description of your plant. I wasn't aware
of its wandering nature when I planted it, but am very pleased that
it seems happy here and has multiplied. I may regret it in future
years, but for now I have visions of its making a fine groundcover in
among my lilies! Hope this helps.

Happy trails.....

I received a plant in our local garden club's perennial pick that is
mis-identified. Although the leaves are similar to Adenophora, the
flowers were not blue as described. Instead the flowers are a
glorious
pendulous elongated bell about the diameter of a nickle and about 2"
long!
Inside, the flower has light burgundy specks, and many fine hairs.
Just the
size for a fat bumblebee! The whole plant stands about 20" in
height, and
seems to spread via underground stolons. Each stem may have up to 10
bells
on it. It was hardy here last winter in our -28°F freeze. Pretty,
and
unobtrusive, despite its creeping behavior. Could someone help me in
identification? The plant didn't come from one of our members, but
rather
as part of a group of perennials from a mail-order nursery as part of
the
grab-bag.

Thanks for your help,
