In respose to a post of June 17:
Finally, my 'Blue Stocking' Monarda has bloomed and you are quite right,
Janice, it is nowhere near blue at all! In fact, I colored about six
little squares of the shades of purple from a box of 64 colors of
Crayolas, and the color which is closest is the "Plum" crayon! Even the
Agastache mexicana, which makes no claims to blueness, is closer to
blue -- it matched the "Violet".
I propose that a chart of flower colors (like the DMC embroidery floss
chart) be devised by the powers that be to which the color of flowers
be compared and so labelled either by number or by a name. Such a chart
like zone charts could become a standard in the industry -- useful for
planning our supposedly color-coordinated gardens. (no, my garden
doesn't qualify!) How about that?
