Re: source for lower cost lilies

Hi, Bob -- Van Engelen Inc. lists Asiatic lilies at 5 for 4.95 or
25 (of one variety) for 22.95; Chinese trumpets (only a few kinds)
at 5 for $7.95, and five Oriental bulbs range in price from $7.75 to
$11.75. Text only catalog, no color pics, good quality bulbs which I

I like Dutch Gardens too, but they list lilies only for Spring delivery
and their selection isn't as extensive. Since I like lilies in
containers, I prefer spring delivery for that use. (They also work in
the ground -- I got some planted in May of this year and they seem
fine.) Prices range from 3 for 12.75 (for Casablanca) to 5 for $9.75
(for Arena) and less for the Asiatics. They have good dahlias & begonia

If you like big impressive lily clumps, I highly recommend the variety
Citronella -- yellow-gold spotted turkscap flowers on stems up to 6 feet
with age, no staking.  I planted 3 bulbs about 4 years ago, under a
maple
tree no less, and now have a clump about 3 feet across with over 20
stems and dozens of buds per stem. Quite a show for most of July!
B&D lilies has these at $6.95 each or 3 for $19.85 (97 prices). Their
