Marigold (Mare - ee - gol - duh) A very easy to grow flower found
commonly in gardens owned by gardeners ranging from beginning to master
rank. Capable of tolerating most all soil types, as well as weather
conditions. I'm so proud of my garden, until I look at the marigolds.
Marigolds, the first grade pencils of the gardening world. <sigh>
My flowers are fading, and fading fast. I've been religious in
deadheading, watering, etc... not too much water, not too little. The
plants are turning a rusty/maroon color. The buds that wanted to open
look like something has eaten the insides out. The flowers that manage
to bloom are ragged and terribly lopsided. Slugs you say? No way man!
I've got a veritable truckload of slug bait (forgive me nature lovers,
as I am just learning the evils of such additives...) spread around.
Nope, no slug problems in my garden, I've got the delphiniums and
dahlias to prove it!
These plants look like they've been sorta burned. I've noticed my
daylillies are looking kind of yellow, and there's brown spots on the
leaves of the shasta daisies close by. Heck, even the allysum looks
like it's been in a dehydrator.
I water once every two to three days. If it's rained, I wait until all
is dry. They're all planted in well drained soil, get plenty of sun
'till round noon - one o'clock. Even the 3 foot tall marigolds (forgot
the name) on the other side of the yard are doing the same thing. They
were GORGEOUS when I bought them a month ago! The marigolds I started
from seeds are in pony packs, and have had excellent care, and they seem
to be stunted in growth. They're two and a half months old, and are
barely one inch tall. They too are turning that brownish red color, and
seem to be dying. <sigh>
Anyone have any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks,
neens
