I always hire a local teenager (through my kid's friends, local Boy
Scout troop, etc.). I pay them about $6/hour and have them come over
for a specific "training session" on what to do and when to do it. Of
course, I leave a written schedule, too. I also grow vegetables, and
have them harvest as needed while I'm gone. And, we have a growing
collection of bonsai trees, that need daily watering and special care if
the sun gets really hot.
