Ligularia?  Thermopsis?  What color are the flowers?  Are they pea-shaped like
lupines?

As far as reference works are concerned, I have learned a lot from the Random
House Perennials, Vols. 1 and 2, by Phillips and Rix.  The American
Horticultural Society has just published a plant encyclopedia, too, which I
don't have yet but will eventually.  (I'm not only a plant addict, but a plant
book addict as well.)
