Dear Val,
I have never ordered from WFF. I was completely put off by the glossy catalog
and
high prices. Many of the plants were fairly common. A catalog that slick is
very
expensive to produce and I believe the buyer pays for it.
I don't have WFF's side of the story, but do have phone experience with Daffodil
Mart,
under its new management. This winter, I was awaiting the summer bulb catalog.
Glancing through
last years invoices, I saw that I had placed my order on Jan 9 1997. since it
was already mid-January, I called to find out where my catalog was. I was told
that DM never published
its summer bulb catalog before Feb 1, contradicting both my notes and their own
invoice.
I wasn't going to argue, but I wasn't happy. End of Feb and still no catalog, I
called back. This time, I was told that there was no longer going to be a
summer bulb catalog. Either the first costomer service rep didn't know or he
lied. Either way I didn't like it. About a week later, I found out that the
Heaths were no longer operating Daffodil Mart.
I find it odd that two small companies had similar experiences with WFF and that
the previous owners
have both started new companies. Doesn't sound to me like the owners wanted to
get out of the business. Several other people left WFF recently, too, and have
started their own company-Great Plants. The prices are over my head, but at
least the plants are unusual.
As far as price and quality, Brent and Becky's is very reasonable, but you are
buying in quantity,
just like the old DM. The selection is huge. This is the first spring
flowering bulb catalog, so I don't know first hand about quality. I am quite
willing putting my money on the Heaths' reputation, though. I plan to buy from
Renee's next year. I would rather buy from new companies started by owners
with good reputations, then the old company under new management. After all,
its the original owners that made the old companies what they were.
