Hi Betty,
I agree with the Southern Charm Verbascum - wow, what a show. Because
their
leaves are so broad - making a 'blanket' of such they are great at keeping
down the weeds. Of course, being the first year I planted these beauties I
intermingled them with latris who are struggling to make their way through
the
foilage. Betty, did you plant anything around the verbascum?
/ Two are not very close to anything. I try to do that with new plants
because you never know how much elbow room they'll need. The third I
planted a little too close to my butterfly bush but it doesn't seem to be
hurting. It's growing and blooming very nicely but I believe its proximity
to the butterfly bush will stunt its growth, at least to a certain extent.

  Also, did the
little side flower shoots develop after picking them and putting them in a
vase.
/ Some of them will. I try to let them stay on the plant until most of the
little flowers have bloomed out because, as you say, you don't want to not
give them their chance to bloom. Another tiny detail I forgot in my
original post is the way they twist and turn after they're arranged. I
suppose they're following the light. Adds a touch of whimsy to a bouquet.

I'm afraid I'll lose them if I use them for arrangements.
Dittos also to guara. I LOVE this plant. Mine will probably bloom in
about a
week. I have three huge clumps and lots of babies coming up.
