Stella d' Ora will bloom in the shade.  I have a ground cover of about at
least 125 planted under a American Beech.  They have been planted for about
two years now and bloom heavily from early May until early July  in
Massachusetts.  I get sporadic bloom the rest of the season until October.
I do find that the plants get taller than when grown in sun but they do not
flop at all.  I want to under plant the area with daffodils to begin the
season of color even earlier.
