it depends on when you deadhead.  If you're doing it right after the bloom,
the seeds haven't had a chance to mature.  If you want seeds, let the
seedhead get good and brown and dried out.  You can separate the inside of
it to see the seeds pretty easily if all goes well.  One drawback is that
if you let that seedhead mature it signals the plant to stop putting up
blooms.  I don't try to collect seeds until late in the year, like August
or September.

Be aware that most hybrids do not come true from seed.  If you like the
variety you have, you're better off dividing in the spring.  In fact, all
chrysanthemums should be divided every other year to keep the growth
vigorous.  Division is really easy for these.  Just take your spade and
divide the clump into fours.  Dig up each section and replant.  Try to do
it before you get 5 or 6" of growth.  In my region, dividing in the fall is
a 50/50 proposition.  Our falls are usually dry and a winter frost can come
before the new plants have a chance to put down good roots.
