Thanks for the guess.  There's a resemblance, but they're not the same.
Although my picture doesn't show it well, the small flowers (maybe a half
dozen or so)  are bunched at the top of a single stem reaching 3 ft or so.

It's definitely in the composite family, but no definite ID yet.
