RE:purple fountain grass


Barb, If you mean Pennisetum setaceum rubrum or P. setaceum 'Burgundy
Giant', they are zone 9 grasses and won't take any freezing temps.  I would
think being protected like you describe would keep yours just fine at 37
degrees.  If you mean Pennisetum alopecuroides atropurpurea, it is very
hardy - no problem.

BTW, do any of you know how much cold Purple Fountain Grass can take?  We
had
2 nites of 37 degrees a while ago and low 40's more recently.  I had my pot
of grass hidden between and under some things to protect it but I'm not
seeing and green growth any more.  Do you think I've lost it and should just
give up and buy a new one?  This morning I saw some at K-Mart for $2.99 so
won't feel nearly as badly as when I bought it for $7.
