What joy to read through over 200 messages after a week's absence for
driving across the country with my daughter and the terrible hardship of
spending three days in Nirvana, aka Portland. The roses were lovely beyond
words. I made a pilgrimage to Heirloom OGR, where I saw so many roses I
had previously only read about. At the Rhodie Garden I saw giant Gunnera
for the first time.
Here in the fallen world of z. 6a, away from the blessed clime of z. 8, I've
decided, from reading the Sanguinaria thread, to plant some of the humble
single type under a viburnum.
