Bill, I just let them drop seed where they will. It comes up despite a
signifigant amount of grass and Hemerocallis flava in that area. I do try
and do a bit of weeding by hand to get out the grass but never get all of
it, and am afraid to roundup in case I get the lupines.
The soil is fairly sandy and has excellent drainage but this is one of the
damper corners of the garden since it is at the bottom of a slope. If I'm
doing something right I have no idea what it is.
