Hi Bill,
Check out
http://www.unexco.com/boxelder.html
It seems to have a lot of good info. (At least it sounds like it does to
this beginner.)
Also found the following - it's from a bug forum:
Q. HELP! I'm being overrun! The side of my house is carpeted with the
wretched things; the area along the foundation is literally crawling
with them.
I've sprayed with Ortho Klor twice, and with a Diazanon product 3
times. Both seem to knock down a few bugs but the vast majority just
keep right on going. How do I kill these things? I'm at my wit's end!
A. The best product for boxelder bugs is cypermethrin. You can either
get cypermethrin in a wettable powder (Demon WP) or as a concentrated
liquid (Sniper). Spray around the foundation or any potential entry
points, as well as in your home. This will take care of the problem.
Q. I'm not worried about indoors -- I've got a 360 day residual on the
bug bomb I used back in March and nothing that crawls in here lives more
than an hour.
HOWEVER, I've got dogs. How safe is Demon to use indoors with pets?
A. Demon WP is one of the safest products on the market, as it is a
synthetic pyrethroid. It has a very low odor as well. We usually
recommend that the treated area be vacated for about an hour or two --
until it is dry. Once it's dry, it's safe.
From another forum:
A friend told me to mix water and dish soap, and spray them down. It
works!
