Re: perennials DIGEST V3 #878

Hi-While I was at the dentist today, the hygienist was telling me about her
clematis problems. These clematis are on the inside of a fence enclosure in a
swimming pool area. She has about eight but it is only two that are affected. The
others are doing fine.Their "heads are in sun, feet in shade"-soil is average, not
really clay-y. Anyway these two are deep purple - others are pink and white. It is
about their fourth year. Others have taken off but these two, about half the vine
consists of dead looking branches with a few green leaves and no blooms. She cut
them all back last year after they bloomed. Any suggestions for her to look into?
I said that I did not know but that I had a "panel of experts" at my fingertips
(of course, thinking of you guys) Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Jill
