Re: stachys

I was thinking of Stachys officinalis, or Betony. As described in
Bluestone Perennials: "24" tall, plant 14" apart. Bushy little clumps of
wrinkled green leaves. Vigorous, with a great many dense spikes of deep
lavender flowers in summer. Does not absolutely need a moist spot, but
does better if ample moisture is provided". They have them for $8.50 for
three plants.

I bought some two years ago and I absolutely love them. They are gorgeous,
need no care from me, make wonderful cut flowers, last a long time in
bloom, and attract bees like bee balm. Even though they are definitely not
provided any extra moisture, they have spread some. Makes me wonder what
they would be like with the water they really want...
