Re: Honeysuckle vine

Hmmm....I've been growing 'Dropmore Scarlet' up a trellis on the
south side of the house, but under the shade of a huge oak for quite
a number of years...just gets better and better each year, profuse
bloom in spring and sporadic bloom right up to fall.  Lovely vine;
have never seen the slightest sign of insect or disease problems on
it (knock on wood that I'm not tempting fate with my hubris here).
Mine really gets no direct sun once that oak has leafed out...well,
maybe a bit around noonish, but not what you'd really call direct
sun...has reached the roof and arched out. As I recall, it took a
few years to hit its stride. I don't find the flowers orange - more
of a brick red...

Am wondering about soil and cultural conditions..water, etc.? Could
this be the problem people seem to be having with this vine? Mine
has its feet in the dense shade of a yew and a bunch of azaleas and
covered with a lot of oak leaf litter that I never get around to
removing as it is really hard to get back there.....have also read, I
think, that this vine resents hard pruning...may be off my rocker,
but that sticks in my mind.

Have pix of same in this article - it's after the wisteria...scroll
down. I love this vine and it pains me to find so many having
problems with it :-(
