tree peony/Carol Mackie

I have a deep purple tree peony but sorry no variety.  I purchased as a 
'purple peony' unfortunately.
    I had a 'Carol Mackie' for about seven years and moved it twice during 
that time but early in its life.  I had a small cutting of it when the parent 
plant all of sudden turned black.  This is just as the books I have said it 
would do.  The cutting matured but then too died just as the first.
