OT: digital camera

Barb:

Since we've only had ours a couple of weeks, I can't really offer much
advice. We bought a Sony Mavica; I wanted one with good resolution so I
could enlarge photos, and an optical zoom. My husband wanted one that could
take pictures on a floppy disk (much cheaper than the memory cards). In
order to get that, we spent around $600. There was an older model of the
Mavica on clearance for about $500, and I would have been happy with it,
but...

I would definitely suggest that you be sure and get one with optical zoom,
and not just digital zoom. I found a web site that had some good
information prior to shopping, and so had an idea of what to look for. It
even has a questionnaire you can answer and it suggests specific cameras and
models. It's http://www.dcresource.com

I don't yet have a feel for how it will shoot in various types of light; am
used to setting aperture and focus manually, and so I'm not sure it will do
what I want! It also takes some getting used to a view screen instead of a
viewfinder. On the plus side, you can see what you got immediately, and
reshoot if you like!

But, I'm sure it will be fun...
