Robin, there are *lots* of gorgeous vines to choose from, but the one I
encourage you to try is the annual hyacinth bean - smashing lavender
flowers, purply/green foliage, deep purple bean pods, and late blooming
- might look great with some red & blue morning glories. Earlier in the
season (June), the traditional pink rose and blue/lavender clematis are
so pretty, or you could do yellow rose/deep purple clematis. Depending
on how *huge* your trellis is, you could have some spectactular
combinations. The white moonflower (night blooming morning glory,
fragrant) is also pretty special. The pale pink "New Dawn" rose is
traditional, or its cousin, "Aloha," a deeper salmon. I have an
"Evangeline" rambler, blooms only once but is literally covered (right
now) with clusters of hundreds of clear pink baby blooms, grows to 20
feet, easy (needs annual pruning - it's pretty vigorous). It gets only
east sun and does great. You could grow clematis through it for later
blooming interest. Morning glories might be too smothering for growing
right on top of a rose.
