Be careful, Marilyn. I was totally immune to PI when I was younger, pulling
it up barehanded with no effect, although I never breathed in smoke from
burning PI. Now that I am 50-something, I find that I do sometimes get a
contact rash from it, so I wash with soap and water immediately after
handling it.

A doctor friend told me the rash is the result of the body's immune system
fighting the infection--so if your immune system is under stress, you might
want to take special care to avoid PI.
