Margo, I bet they have multiplied significantly.  I don't think you can kill 
them, but I would dig them up soon, assuming their foliage is dying back now. 
 I find that these bulbs provide a textbook illustration of "naturalizing."  
They make a lovely show in the spring.  I wish I had a place to put them 
where all that foliage didn't get in the way of my perennials.
