I have been over at the nursery office reading the magazines again and there
is an announcement from Home Depot that they will be opening three new stores
in Atlanta, late August, called HD Landscape Supply.
They are aimed at landscapers for weekdays and home gardeners on the
weekends. This is the debut of a fully new chain which will carry some of
what they have now but a full line of everything else you could buy in any
catalog. It will be open all year around in Atlanta.
They profess to be hiring certified staff to answer questions and deal with
customers. the will be "able to talk your language". They state they have
learned that contractors don't like having poor staff in their other stores.
Therein lies a conclusion you can draw as you like.
The expectation is to serve both types of customers, pros and gardeners.
It seems that Home Depot will own the whole USA in time. There are so many of
them around here, even an inner city smaller store so nobody can get away.
You guys around Atlanta must give us a report on what is coming. Article
says the first Atlanta store will be open before Labor Day.
