Merri,
Here in the Pacific Northwest we blame that phenomenon on the mild
winter......"it confuses the plants". I had bright orange Oriental Poppies
blooming with hot magenta Tulips in my hell strip (gasp!). My Helenium
'Moorheim Beauty' (mid July) always blooms before H. 'Feursiegal' (mid
August), but they are both budding up now. I just tell people I'm color
blind :).

Bloom times really seem to have conflated this year. I have Echinacea
coming into bloom; Achillea 'Fireland', which has always bloomed in mid July
in tandem with a daylily in matching colors, is about to bloom, and Helenium
'Moorheim Beauty', which I put in this year to bloom with Asters, is about
to bloom. It will be horrible with the present colors in that bed.
Obviously it all has something to do with the rain, rain, rain, but does
anyone know exactly what?
