crown vetch nightmare

There is a small patch of land over my leach field that I have mown only
every couple of years to keep tree seedlings out. I was in there yesterday
among the very tall grass and weeds pulling some tall weeds before they went
to seed when I noticed a patch of crown vetch. Lord only knows where it
came from; probably the birds carried it in. It was in flower so I pulled
it before it could set seed, but I am now terrified that it will spread like
lightning into my gardens through my light, sandy soil. I already the day
before found a start of it in one bed at the far end of my property. How on
earth am I going to eradicate this? I can't mow there at all now, and
really can't undertake it on a regular basis. If I start with Round up it
will have to be a scorched earth policy throughout a 10-12 foot diameter
area. Does anyone have any advice or help. I am an organic gardener, but I
will use an atomic bomb if necessary to control this fearful thug.
