I grow L. scariosa. This was more like 6-8 small Queen Anne's lace umbels arranged similarly to dill/fennel. I got a decent look while stuck in traffic.

I apologize for my last message.  If your email program is like mine, you
did not see a nice photo and write up about Liatris scariosa.  I tried to
include the page from Dave's Garden's plant index.  It didn't work.  Perhaps
you can go there on your own, Cheryl, and see if this looks right.
