Re: Campanula

Ceres,
I think the C.poscharskyanas (Serbian Bellflower) and the C.portenshlagianas
(Dalmatian Bellflower) grow much the same. One reference I have here says
that Serbian is a more [more than what?] rampant spreader, mounding up to 12
in high with an indefinite spread while Dalmatian has a max ht of 6in, also
with indefinite spread. The book indicates that it makes a nice
groundcover. We have had C. portenschlagiana 'Resholt's Variety' in our
Cottage Garden for 5 years and it has spread nicely, at a reasonable pace.
If your Serbian is too big for its trough, maybe it is simply time to
divide. If you put a portion in the ground, give it some room. If it shows
signs of spreading more quickly than you'd like, you could catch it quickly
as you did C. Elizabeth and C. Cherry Bells.

Now, anyone, what do you know of Campanula 'Kent Belle'? One of our gardens
asked for Cherry Bells and I had to tell her no. Instead she got Kent
Belle. Anyone know if this one will be a problem? Mobot says it is a
clump former, but it mentions spots inside the "large, drooping, tubular,
glossy-violet, bell-like flowers." Spots gets me thinking Spotted
Bellflower, C. punctata. Should I worry?

Kitty
