Hi Joan, It sounds like HVX, a very nasty hosta virus which has no cure. The following link has info and photos of HVX. If your hosta has markings like these then you need to destroy the plant. Do NOT compost it. If you use a shovel or fork to dig it up, sterilize the tool when done. If you get any of the sap on your hands you will need to wash your hands before touching any other plants. Also in the info you will find it says to not replant anything in the hole until you are sure all remaining root material is dead and rotted away. http://www.hostalibrary.org/firstlook/HVX.htm There is a link to more photos at the top of the page. Here you will find photos of infected Gold Standard. Karen Jeaa0088@aol.com wrote:I need some advice...I noticed that one recently planted Hosta 'Gold---------------------------------------------------------------------

Should I be suspicious and dispose of this plant? If a virus, could it spread
to the other Hosta around it? I have never seen this before. Is there a way to
i.d. the odd colorations?
Many thanks for any recommendations.
