Hi Joanie,
Try a search for foliar nematodes. Below are just a couple of sites I found.
Nematodes are not common to just hostas. Nematodes are nasty little
things that are difficult to get rid of partly due to the effective
pesticides having been removed from the market. Nematodes don't show up
till later in the season. In hostas you will see brown/rustish color
stripes between the leaf veins.
I am not an expert on the topic. I just know they are a scurge of
hostaholics and very difficult to get rid of.
