Re: Foliar nematodes

Hi Joanie,

I was just at Wade & Gatton which is a large nursery near here and is
well known in the hosta world. I was talking with one of the employees
and she isn't as concerned with nematodes as she is with HVX. She
suggested Dysiston(sp??) for the nematodes. It apparently works very
well. She also said housekeeping is a big part of it. Remove any
infected leaves as soon as damage is found; in the fall dispose of the
wilted foliage along with tree leaves in that area(s), etc. Also,
sanitizing tools before moving onto another plant. Ridding our plants of
nematodes isn't an overnight process, but it sounds like it is possible
to greatly reduce the numbers. She also mentioned some are using ZeroTol.
