I checked out spanish bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica).

That's it for sure. So, they're ephemeral? I've grown scilla for years but  
had no idea that a strap-like foliage was available. I'm smitten! 
 
Wish that foliage would stick around longer but I do have variegated  Liriope 
that makes me swoon. And, it does just fine in zone 5a and full sun,  with 
enough water.
