Not only is Fallopia japonica (Japanese knotweed) a well known thug,
it's one of the nastiest invasive plants on the planet. Anyone who has
this in their garden should do everything they can to get rid of it. In general I'm very sceptical about the alarmist views of the plant police, the people who would have us grow local native plants in our gardens and not much else. But this is a plant that needs to be taken very seriously indeed - and never ever grown in gardens.
