I actually ended up killing the variegated one.  Tried it three times
and couldn't get the darned thing to take off.  I wanted to brighten
up one corner of the yard with it.

Now I have Spigelia marilandica (Indian pinks) and Deinanthe bifida 
'Pink Kii' (false hydrangea) growing there instead.  Probably better 
plants.  :)
