Nancy, which selaginella is it? Only certain ones are hardy here, Zone 5b northeastern IN Temps are starting to go up so I’d like to ship sooner than later. Send me an address at k*@comcast.net Kitty From: owner-perennials@hort.net [mailto:owner-perennials@hort.net] On Behalf Of Nancy Robinson I would love some! My source is gone now and plants make me think about who I got them from! Now that would be you! Thanks, want to see if I have something you need? Lots of selaginella....Nancy
Nancy I have a small stand of Canadian Ginger that I started from a leaf I found in a path. I didn’t think of it as stealing since it was just going to be stomped on if I didn’t rescue it. It took many years, but it’s doing great. Seriously, If you want some European Ginger, I have oodles. I could ship you a package to you if you’d like. Kitty From: o*@hort.net [mailto:o*@hort.net] On Behalf Of Nancy Robinson I have had good luck with stem cuttings....leaves root too but never make a plant. Several years ago I had a nice stand of Asarum europeaum but then all died in drought. I kept hoping a seed was still there. Found one little leaf....need to write myself a note to dig it up and pot it. Ordered a plant but nursery just could not come up with that plant. Not even sure I got my money back. Last order for that company though. Nancy Stormy night and day in Tennessee ----------------------------------------- From: "Kitty Morrissy" <1*@rewrite.hort.net> It’s been pretty wet here all spring. I know I don’t have it as bad as some of you; most things are doing fine here, some flourishing with the extra moisture. But I was cleaning out the yellowing daf & colchicum leaves and found that several clumps of Asarum europeaum, European Ginger, had rotted. Too wet, too shady, too crowded perhaps. That’s ok, I have lots of it. I had noticed the Heuchera Caramel was sparse this year and expected it to fill in, but it wasn’t. I lifted one longish extension and the whole plant came up! Almost no roots and lots of rot throughout most of the stems, even though it was leafing out in places and even had a couple of flower stems. That’s ok, I’ve had it for many years but I just hate pitching something with some healthy bits still in it. I cut out and trimmed the healthy pieces, eliminating the rot and sulfur-powdering the cut ends. What roots there had been were left out with the rot. I’m placing the pieces in shallow strawberry containers and setting them in my shade house for now. We’ll see if any of them make it. So, what are my chances? Anything else I should try? How are the rest of you faring? Kitty |
