Polemonium. Perennials. Zones 1-11, 14-17. Plants for shaded or half-shaded borders or under trees. Lush rosettes of finely divided, fernlike foliage; clusters of bell-shaped flowers in summer. Combine with bleeding heart, campanulas, ferns, hellebores, hosta, and lilies. Cool, moist conditions; good drainage. Grow from seed, or divide after flowering or in spring. Many species are choice wildflowers from western mountains. Following are 2 generally available in nurseries.
P. caeruleum. Jacob's Ladder. Clusters of lavender blue, pendulous, 1 in long flowers on leafy, 1.5 - 2 ft high stems.
P. reptans. Best known is its variety 'Blue Pearl', a dwarf, spreading plant 9 in. tall. Profuse display of blue flowers in April and May. good in shaded, dampish rock garden.
                                [Sunset Western Garden Book. c. 1988. p. 478.]

[Can get to over 4 ft in prime conditions. /dw]

Wonderfully reliable, sweetly perfumed, graceful plants. IMHO!
