Isabelle,
Where do you live?
Here in Wisconsin in Zone 4, we have a terrible problem with Purple
Loosestrife, a pretty purple tall plant which has run rampant in swamps,
marshes and wet places overwhelming and crowding out plants which serve
as food for wildlife. Even though there is supposed to be a cultivar
which is purported not to be a spreader, others have claimed some
cross-pollination with natives can occur resulting in more spreading.
Gardeners are discouraged from planting it anywhere. When we moved into
this house 20 years ago, I had one plant behind the garage getting only
4 hours of sun. I left it and it seemed to behave itself though rather
scraggly, but this year I found another coming up in a flower bed! So
they may both go.
Also have the scourge of gout weed which started as the varigated
variety which I thought I had dug and gotten out. It fooled me by
reverting to the all green variety and is taking over again. I almost
hate to tramp around in that bed to grub it out - I will have such a
bald patch. Learn to love our weeds?
