Thanks Terry - I was confident that you'd know everything there is to
know about this.
In re: allergies:
I am told by various physicians that allergies are not something that
comes out of the blue, but that they are actually present in our systems
and finally become symptomatic after a sufficient exposure to the
specific allergens to which we are sensitive.
I haven't noticed that I am any more allergic to chrysanthemum than any
other plant material, and at any rate I have stopped worrying about it.
It seems that the new anti-histamines are so good that many physicians
just prescribe them, treat the problem sympomatically, and don't worry
about what's causing the problem. Allergy testing is costly, painful,
and often doesn't produce any useful results; I know -- I've been there.
A few years ago, the anti-histamine of choice was Seldane. Now there is
a second-generation of such medications (which don't cross the
blood-brain barrier and don't get you sleepy). The one that's just been
prescribed for me is Claritin; you take it once a day, and mirabile
dictu, allergy symptoms are gone.
Actually, insect bites are more of a problem for me. We have a lot of
what we call "no-see-ums" here; I guess they are gnats. They - like all
flying insects - are attracted to me, and gardening season is a time
requring great patience for me, since I am covered with hideous bug
bites and resulting scabs. Other than SkinsSoSoft and the regular
commercial insect repellants, does anyone out there have a magic
solution? Anyone had any luck taking Vitamin B complex, or specifically
Vitamin B1.
Help in this department will be most gratefully appreciated.
